The joy of freedom is the main feature expressed in this cornet duet, the title of which refers to the ringing bells of Heaven 'pealing forth the anthem of the free'. The song, 'Sweet Chiming Bells' introduces the soloists and is heard throughout as a countermelody to the variations on the main theme, 'Ring the Bells of Heaven'.

This scintillating duet was written for Ronald Waiksnoris and Lambert Bittinger of the New York Staff Band and their participation in The Salvation Army's International Congress of 1978. The piece is now available in the best of modern electronic typesetting and printing, complete with standard and optional sections for soloists of varying technical ability.
