Camp Happyland is the camp for the National Capital and Virginia Division and is located in a beautiful wooded setting deep in the Virginia countryside some 70 miles south of Washington DC. The march features the children's hymn, 'There is a happy land, far, far away; Where saints in glory stand, bright, bright as day'.
No. 2089 Intrada on 'Monkland' (Stephen Bulla).
This scintillating concert opener was written for the first Charlotte (North Carolina) Brass Spectacular. The hymn tune, 'Monkland' provide the melodic source for musical development and the composer's imaginative treatment aligns well with the thoughts of praise and gratitude expressed in the first verse of the associated text: 'Let us with a gladsome mind, Praise the Lord for he is kind'.
No. 2090 Hymn tune arrangement - Ascalon (Ralph Pearce).
The tune, 'Ascalon' was a favourite of Bandmaster Eric Loveless and this arrangement was made for his 'Celebration of Life' service in June 2006. There is also a reference to the song, 'In the love of Jesus' which was his favourite slow melody solo.
